In 2013, @vivekbald1857 wrote a book entitled "Bengali Harlem and the Lost Histories of South Asian America." The book was based on research on two groups of Bengali Muslim men who settled and intermarried within African American and Puerto Rican neighborhoods in the Southern and Eastern U.S.
Although the book came out first, the project was originally conceived as a documentary film project. The film, entitled In Search of Bengali Harlem, is now complete and about to premiere in San Francisco, CA, as part of @caamedia (one of the foremost Asian American film festivals in the U.S.) This screening, May 14, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. @greatstartheater is the only place you'll be able to watch this documentary.
