Amadi and Naaz met at the University of Washington library on May 16th, 2014, and married on May 16th, 2024. Amadi proposed to Naaz on the morning of May 31st, 2021, in a hot air balloon. They had their wedding in Santa Barbara, California, surrounded by close friends and family.
Amadi's father is from Côte d'Ivoire, and his mom is from Brooklyn. He was born in New York but grew up in Southern California. Naaz's parents were born and raised in Punjab, but she was born in New Jersey, where she was the eldest of three siblings born in the United States. Their shared background of being born on the East Coast and the eldest children of immigrant families initially brought them together. They also had families living in California, hours away from their community in Seattle.
The two began their relationship in late winter 2014. Unfortunately, Naaz's parents discovered their relationship early on and cut all ties with her while she was still in college. Her parents still refuse to meet Amadi despite their attempts to make amends. Fortunately, Naaz's siblings and Amadi's family have been supportive.
Over the ten years they've shared as a couple, they've developed a keen appreciation for their respective cultures through a mutual love of art and communication. Individual therapy has significantly contributed to their ability to support one another, allowing them space to process their emotions. As transparently speaking, it has been emotionally draining on both parties experiencing such conditional love. These two are each other's greatest advocates, from their conversations to their business aspirations, as evidenced by their chai business, The Chit Chat Chai.
They now reside in Austin, Texas, with their German Shepherd, Rosé and their Nebelung cat, Bubbameow, and remain hopeful about reconnecting with Naaz's parents.
